A Story with a Happy Ending
Question: Are you also tired of the election coverage?
I’m weary of the news stories, the attack ads, the tense atmosphere in the US now. I’m ready to hear positive stories with satisfying endings.
A couple weeks ago, as I was preparing for The Co-Captain’s Log to go on sale, I was categorizing the book on various websites.
Travelogue: Check.
Adventure travel: Check.
Good for Book Clubs: Check.
Then I saw this category: Story with a Happy Ending.
I was proud to check “Yes! The Co-Captain’s Log is a story with a happy ending.”
We all want stories with happy endings.
Last week, I talked to readers at the Annapolis Sailboat Show. Once they heard our story, they often reacted with:
“You broke your leg?! I don’t want to read that kind of story. I want to read happy stories.” To which I responded, “You see me now. Look! I can jump up and down, do lunges, run. The story may start with trauma, but it ends in triumph.”
“You and your husband crossed the Pacific on a 34-foot sailboat. Did you fight a lot???” To which I responded, “You don’t have to read very far to see we fought, BUT, not only are we still married, we are still happily married.”
On New Zealand’s South Island - still happily married 11,000 nautical miles later
So if you’re also hungry for good stories, stories with happy endings, stories of people getting along and working together, then turn off cable news, stop doom scrolling, and check out these short stories from The Co-Captain’s Log:
Grudge or Grace page 75
Pacific Crossing Day 23 page 229
Meet the Marquesans page 233
